Drawing is very direct - it is one of the earliest and most primary acts of visual communication. Drawing can be both preliminary sketch for other mediums or a focus all its own.  While we have an appreciation for traditional drawing approaches, drawing need not be confined to 2D space, static imagery, or that which is produced by a single artist’s hand. 

We have expansive notions of what it means to make a drawing and are interested in further expanding definitions of drawing through new approaches to the field. For the sake of selecting artists for this residency we prefer to offer the residency to artists focusing on drawing for the duration of their stay. The treehouse studio is a small space, so scale is a limiting factor unless artists wish to work outdoors in a covered outdoor work area. The residency is situated with easy access to urban environments, and world class natural landscapes for those wishing to use the outdoors as either a subject, an expanded work space or both.
